LEOMINSTER — People all over the city showed their spirit on Monday in honor of National Pink Flamingo Day, which was established in 2007 by Mayor Dean Mazzarella and is celebrated annually on June 23. One of the city’s claims to fame is that the plastic pink flamingo lawn ornament was created there by Donald Featherstone in 1957 when he worked at Union Products after graduating from art school at the Worcester Art Museum.

LEOMINSTER — Johnny Appleseed Elementary School Principal Bevin Tapply recently announced that the school is the winner of this year’s BFit Hat Trick for Health $30,000 top prize. The dedicated administrator said the donation came because school parent Megan Bertoni originally nominated Johnny Appleseed for a $3,000 donation, which they won over the winter, and then out of six finalist schools they were picked for the $30K award.
