The 100ft high artwork of a miner was created by retired GP turned artist Claire Eason who spent hours painstakingly drawing the image with a rake at low-tide on Sunday. Despite the nearby pit shutting in 1968, the village's industrial past is still evident by the black coal particles coating the shoreline.

Kevin Shanahan, who turns 40 in October, moved to the town with his wife in 2018 and they have two sons – six-year-old Jack and four-year-old Leo. He had taken part in the odd park run, but did more running during the lockdown periods due to Covid-19 and the distances increased.
