Appel is accused of producing and owning numerous images depicting the sexual exploitation of children. Law enforcement took him into custody on May 14 following the execution of a search warrant at his Colonie home on April 17. Appel was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child and possessing a sexual performance by a child.

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Jeal Sutherland of Colonie pleaded guilty on Wednesday to attempting to facilitate a murder-for-hire scheme, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced. Sutherland, 57, was arrested by the FBI back in January. As part of his plea agreement, Sutherland admitted to arranging the murder of a Capital Region man between November 2024 and January 2025.
