And they don’t really have delis in Seattle [like LA’s.] Piroshky is a Russian place that has the best matzoh ball soup, the best borscht, and the best meatball and rice soup. It feels a little bit like home."“I’m gluten-free, so it limits certain things, but they have such good gluten-free options there. The kimchi pancake is a must. Obviously their cocktails are delicious. Short rib rice plate? Amazing.

Hidden below an apartment building in Pinehurst, there’s a coffee shop roasting Costa Rican beans in a miniscule space, and the result just works. Giddy Sloth is worth a visit if only for their tapa dulce latte, loaded with enough panela-infused syrup to sweeten stiff espresso without making it taste like a sack of sugar cubes to the face. Plus, you can pair it all with excellent chocolate chip cookies somehow prepared effortlessly in a countertop oven.

Not to be confused with Piroshky Piroshky at Pike Place, this Crossroads food court spot in Bellevue also specializes in Russian stuffed pastries. You can also expect pelmeni, as well as various soups in varieties like matzo ball, meatball and rice, and borscht. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists.

At first glance, this Bainbridge Island breakfast spot looks like an 1800s schoolhouse. Only instead of chalkdust and accredited teachers in their early teens, there’s an abundance of tasty bagels. No need to swim across Elliott Bay to get your hands on a dozen—but there’s a pleasant squish and light crunch to the dough that pairs well with highly concentrated schmears in a variety of good flavors. It’s an asset to the island.

If you’re going to do afternoon tea in Seattle, Queen Mary is the best place to be. Servers in frilly aprons flutter by handing out tea samples, the walls are decked out in a seasonal theme, and there’s a photo of Julie Andrews in the bathroom, for goodness’ sake. Beside the enormous selection of tea, tiered towers include things like tasty little shot glasses of tomato bisque and fresh fruit that pairs nicely with clotted cream. They also offer an equally as great gluten-free version.
