PHOENIX — You're never too old to learn if you're willing and open to it. 79-year-old Miguel "Mike" Ayala never stopped wanting to finish his education and he’s now getting that chance. He turned to the Excel Center in Phoenix to help him realize his dream. That’s where 12News caught up with him, as he was studying. "I think education is the most greatest thing a person can have," Ayala said with a smile. Ayala is working towards his high school diploma.

PHOENIX — When driving down 7th Avenue near Fillmore, it’s hard not to notice the sign for Mexican bakery and restaurant Cocina Adamex. The turn into the parking lot comes quickly and during the lunch rush, the parking lot gets so packed that cars have to park in the alley. One of the big draws besides the breakfast and lunch menu, is their extra-large take on the classic Mexican sweet bread called a Concha.   The name comes from the shell-like pattern on top of the bread.

PHOENIX — Copper is one of the five Cs of Arizona. It helped put Arizona on the map and gave work to so many. The industry isn't what it once was, but the towns built around the industry remain and there is a new way one organization is working to help build them back up. It’s through a new scholarship launched by Chicanos Por La Causa and company BHP specifically targeting those in what’s known as the "Copper Corridor." Brandon Garner Jr. is the first recipient of the scholarship.

PHOENIX — The Valley Hispanic Bomberos have been mentoring aspiring firefighters for decades. Now that those volunteers are on Valley firefighter crews, they're continuing to pay the work forward. They've partnered with Franklin Police and Fire High School in Phoenix to put on workouts for aspiring recruits.
