    For more than six years, officials allege a Cobb County caregiver deprived a man of “necessary sustenance,” legal documents reveal. After the man was found dead at a home in unincorporated Marietta early Wednesday morning, police confirmed foul play was suspected. Rachel Ernestine Ward was arrested later that day. Ward, 62, was taken into custody at a home on Stoneridge Drive, where officials said they also located the victim.

    A 16-year-old boy was killed and another injured in a Wednesday night shooting in southwest Atlanta, authorities said. Officers were called to an area near Campbellton Road and Oakland Drive, near Rev. James Orange Park at Oakland City, around 8:10 p.m. about a person shot. Police said they found one teenager unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Two juveniles are facing charges after a shooting in Gwinnett County that left a 17-year-old dead, police said Friday. The two suspects, who were also injured in the shooting, have been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the death of Andrew Gatlin, according to authorities. Police did not release the suspects’ names or ages. Shortly before midnight May 15, police were called to an area of Pirkle Road.

    A former detention officer was charged with a felony after he allegedly assaulted a 14-year-old at a Cobb County youth detention center, officials said. Vanderia Britton resigned from his position as assistant director of programs at the Marietta Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC) in April while under investigation, said Glenn Allen with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. On Monday, Britton was booked into the Cobb jail on a charge of first-degree cruelty to children.
