BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – A family is mourning after a 16-year-old bystander was fatally shot near a Bronx school. 16-year-old Evette Jeffrey was shot in the head Monday near I.S. 158 in the Bronx. Police said she was trying to hide from a gang-related shooting that had started with a fight on the school yard. Jeffrey had just turned 16, her loved ones wrote on a GoFundMe that raised over $2,700 by Wednesday.

NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – Newark Mayor Ras Baraka shared new videos of his arrest at an ICE facility that he said prove he didn’t trespass. Baraka was arrested on May 9 outside the Delaney Hall Detention Center. He was accused of trespassing and ignoring warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to leave the facility, according to Alina Habba, interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey. Baraka was later released.

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – Travelers should expect crowding on PATH trains and at Newark Airport in the event of a NJ Transit strike, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey warned. Amid failing contract negotiations with NJ Transit, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen has threatened to strike as early as 12:01 a.m. on May 16. A strike would bring all NJ Transit rail service to a halt, including Metro-North service west of Hudson.
