The 50th anniversary of the Arizona Softball program has been an ode to the dominant history of the U of A, along with an opportunity to connect with the proud legacies of past Wildcats.
Arizona club roller hockey team wins national championship

By Matt Reynoldson AUBURN, Maine (KVOA) - For the first time in program history, the Arizona men's roller hockey team has won the national title. The Wildcats, who all paid their own way to Maine for the championships, defeated Michigan State 7-2 in the Division 2 title game. Arizona came out on top of a 14-team field to claim the crown. TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - It was a Sunday to remember at the ballparks in the Old Pueblo. The Arizona softball and baseball teams completed series sweeps with walk-off wins at home, and both victories came with some hometown flavor. Tucson High grad and Arizona Softball senior Carlie Scupin hit a go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning against ASU, giving the Wildcats a 9-8 win, a series sweep of the Sun Devils, and payback for a 2022 sweep at Hillenbrand Stadium.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Tucson magic was on full display Friday night. The Arizona softball and baseball teams both earned their second walk-off wins in the last week, providing some fireworks to the last shared home weekend for the programs in 2024. The Wildcats softball team entered the seventh inning deadlocked in a 2-2 tie with Arizona State, but Kaiah Altmeyer ended the game on one swing in the bottom half.

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Tucson Roadrunners aren't going anywhere just yet. Team owner Alex Meruelo revealed at a press conference Friday that he "spoke too soon" on a Phoenix radio show Thursday, and that no decisions have been made about the Roadrunners relocating to Tempe. Meruelo also revealed he hasn't discussed the matter with the Roadrunners, the City of Tucson, or Arizona State University, which owns Mullett Arena in Tempe.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Tucson Roadrunners could be on the move. Team owner Alex Meruelo, who owns the Arizona Coyotes and sold all team assets to Utah-based Smith Entertainment Group, said he intends to move the Roadrunners to Tempe. In an appearance on Phoenix radio station 98.7 Arizona Sports Tuesday, Meruelo disclosed that he had retained ownership rights to the Roadrunners in the sale. "We plan on keeping all hockey - when it comes to business operations - intact," Meruelo said.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Arizona guard Pelle Larsson is taking his talents to the next level, but not before receiving some rare recognition for his senior season. The Sweden native became just the fifth Wildcat in program history to receive Academic All-America honors, and the first since 1991. Larsson carried a 3.6 GPA with a business administration major and will earn his degree next month. The senior also declared for the NBA Draft.
Roadrunners clinch home ice in Calder Cup Playoffs first round

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - By virtue of Saturday's 2-1 win over Colorado, the Tucson Roadrunners will be opening up the postseason at home. The Roadrunners will be either the No. 2, No. 3, or No. 4 seed in the Pacific Division and will host the best-of-three first round series when the Calder Cup Playoffs begin in two weeks. Tucson has three games remaining in the regular season, including one road game at first place Coachella Valley Wednesday before returning home next Friday and Saturday.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Massive changes could be on the way for professional hockey in Arizona. Multiple reports indicated Friday that the Arizona Coyotes are finalizing a deal to relocate to Salt Lake City, with owner Alex Meruelo selling the team to the Utah Jazz owners. This comes on the heels of a years-long search for a permanent arena in the Phoenix area. The Coyotes moved out of their Glendale home two years ago and are currently playing at Arizona State's Mullett Arena.
UA women's hoops lands North Carolina transfer Paulina Paris

(KVOA) - The Arizona women's basketball team is busy building the roster for next season. Following their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, the Wildcats landed North Carolina transfer guard Paulina Paris, who will come to UA with two years of eligibility remaining. Paris, a New York native, played in 48 games during her first two seasons with the Tar Heels. She averaged 6.3 points per game as a freshman and 5.8 as a sophomore.
