Last year, the only thing anybody wanted to talk to Arizona State football coach Kenny Dillingham about was his take on being picked to finish last in the Big 12. But Dillingham, now heading into his third year, is a hotter commodity after his team's Cinderella run to a conference title and berth in the College Football Playoffs. During a brief reprieve from recruiting, Dillingham is in Orlando with all the other Big 12 coaches and administrators for the annual spring conference meetings.

There should be more focus on the Arizona State football team this year than there has been for a while. A year ago, the Sun Devils were coming off a 3-9 showing, and they were projected to finish last in the Big 12 in their inaugural year in that conference. But ASU went 11-3 and surprisingly won the conference. The Big 12, along with its television partners ESPN, Fox and TNT, announced television and streaming plans for the opening weeks of the football season.

Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt donated $15,000 to the Pat Tillman Foundation. Leavitt and teammate Jordyn Tyson hosted a youth football camp. It's safe to say that Arizona State football coach Kenny Dillingham's enthusiasm for his job and the community has spread to his players. His two highest-profile players, quarterback Sam Leavitt and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, took to the football field at Chander High Saturday, May 24, for a camp geared toward youngsters ages 6 to 16.

If the rules now in effect had existed last season, Big 12 champion Arizona State would not have gotten a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. A change in the 12-team seeding format has been approved by the CFP's management committee, which is comprised of 10 FBS commissioners along with Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua. In the fall, the playoff will transition to a straight seeding model, which rewards the selection committee's top four teams with first-round byes.

Former Arizona State basketball standout Adam Miller has committed to Gonzaga. That will be his fourth college stop. He started his career close to his home at Illinois, then moved on to LSU. He played for the Sun Devils for the past two seasons, playing in 30 games last season and starting in all of those. The 6-foot-3 senior guard averaged 9.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. He shot 45% from the field and was the team's most dependable 3-point shooter, hitting 57 of 133 tries (42.9%).
