Phoenix police have released a man who said he fatally stabbed another person at a motel as detectives investigated the incident. Officers responded to a motel near Seventh Street and the Interstate 17 freeway around 3:45 p.m. on May 31 after reports of an assault, Sgt. Phil Krynsky, a department spokesperson, said.

Valley temperatures were expected to drop to slightly below normal levels as a weather system with "unseasonably high moisture" was likely to bring rain and potentially thunderstorms to the area, according to the National Weather Service's Phoenix office. The agency said on June 1 that metro Phoenix was projected to have a 50%-80% chance of rainfall with a 15%-30% chance of thunderstorms, while a drier weather system could bring showers and some weak thunderstorms on June 3.
