PHOENIX (AZFamily) — An Air Quality Alert is in effect today due to forecasted high ozone levels. Today (Happy Mother’s Day!) is a First Alert Weather Day because of the moderate to high heat risk. Highs will be near 105; if we do hit 105, it would be the warmest day since October. Some high clouds will move in during the day, although it probably won’t have much of an effect on the warm temperatures. It will be breezy today, but probably not quite as breezy as Saturday.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — As temperatures continue to heat up, there is a chance that the high in Phoenix could hit 105 this weekend. Would hitting our first 105 of the year be ahead, behind, or right on schedule? If 105 degrees verifies on either Saturday, May 10th, or Sunday, May 11th, it would be ahead of the average. Notice that the average first date of hitting 105-plus temperatures is May 31st using records going back to 1896.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — On this date in 2011, the Horseshoe 2 Fire started in southeast Arizona. The National Weather Service notes that “by the time it was contained in June, it had consumed over 222,000 acres and was Arizona’s fifth largest wildfire.” An article from NASA, as well as several other sources, point to human activities as the likely cause of the fire starting. The fire started in the southeastern part of the Chiricahua Mountains.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — There will be a slight chance of a few lingering showers this morning, mostly west of the Valley. A few more showers are possible today in the higher terrain northeast of Phoenix. High today of 84. The disturbance in the jet stream which has been bringing the showers and cooler temperatures will continue to move eastward today and tonight. By tomorrow, a ridge of high pressure will start to build sending temperatures into the mid 90s.

The last 105+ temperature in Phoenix was October 10th of last year! It's possible we hit 105 this Mother's Day weekend. https://t.co/JoVJahzO3K

RT @HollyBockTV: Rain near the 51 and Camelback right now! Looks like pretty isolated activity in the Valley, for now. We're tracking rain…

Chance of showers and T-storms in the Valley later today, but especially overnight into early Monday morning. https://t.co/sWd1QR465Q
