PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Today will be the coolest day of the weekend with a high near 101. Breezes will pick up a bit from the southwest at 5-15 mph this afternoon into this evening, but it won’t be quite as breezy as Saturday. The average high temperature for today is 106. If we only make it to 99 today, it would be a rare event. Since the year 2000, only seven days have been below 100 degrees from June 20 to June 30.

PHOENIX (AZFamily)—After hitting 110 or higher for seven straight days, we will hit a high temperature of around 105 today. Along with these “cooler” temperatures, breezes will be picking up this afternoon, with gusts of around 25-30 mph possible in the Valley. A Red Flag Warning is in effect Saturday for northern and central Arizona, including parts of eastern Maricopa County, southern Gila County, and northern Pinal County, due to breezy and dry conditions.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Friday marks the first day of summer, although the summer solstice does not technically arrive until 7:42 p.m. It’s when the sun directly shines over the Tropic of Cancer, which is about 23.4° north of the equator. The day is the furthest north that the sun’s rays will directly hit the earth, making it the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. In the Valley, we get about 14 hours and 22 minutes of daylight.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) issued its monthly forecast for the monsoon, and the new update is less optimistic about above-normal rainfall in Arizona. For the past several months, the CPC forecast leaned towards above-normal rainfall in this part of the country. The new forecast sits right in the middle between above-normal and below-normal rainfall.

PHOENIX (AZFamily)—Despite the extreme heat we have experienced in recent years, flights continue to take off and land at Sky Harbor. But is there a threshold temperature at which it is no longer safe for planes to take off? On June 26, 1990, the temperature hit an all-time record of 122°F at Sky Harbor! As a precautionary measure, incoming flights were temporarily halted.

With the heat on the way, here are some stats so you can keep your cool. We just had our coolest start to June since 1999. https://t.co/1AWfHqyM6r

The June rain managed to put a few dents into the Arizona drought. https://t.co/csGvH1uOK5
