Agriculture & Food Security is a peer-reviewed open-access journal dedicated to tackling the important issue of global food security. It publishes research articles that focus on food security, especially those that can lead to more sustainable agricultural practices and food systems, addressing food and nutritional insecurity at various levels—local, regional, national, and global. The journal welcomes innovative research from a wide range of fields, including agricultural, ecological, environmental, nutritional, and socio-economic sciences, as well as public health and policy studies.

To assess the impact of traditional farming practices on the food consumption of households facing extreme weather events, we focus on the adaptive capabilities of households across Tanzania. Tanzania is seen as a country that is especially at risk of experiencing the negative effects of climate change [65]. Climate projections foresee a marked increase in temperature, rainfall, floods, and droughts in various Tanzanian regions within the next few decades [66].

An experiment was conducted in 2020 and 2021 at San Piero a Grado (43.6628N, 10.3485E), ca. 9 km SW of Pisa, Central Italy. San Piero a Grado is part of the Mediterranean zone, characterized by mild, relatively rainy winters and hot, dry summers. Annual precipitations reach 910 mm, ranging from 25 mm in the driest month (July) to 145 mm in the wettest (November), with an irregular pattern throughout the year (autumn being the rainiest season).
