    LAKE CITY — Julie Neumann, founder and CEO of Harvest of Kindness based in Lake City, sheds tears of joy after receiving a donation of $8,634 on Tuesday, May 6, from Don Hoitenga, representing the Northland Community Church. Julie attended the Focus on Life dinner held annually at the Northland church and was waiting afterward to receive a donation of leftover food to help feed the 22 homeless families from the Lake City area the Harvest of Kindness group is currently helping.

    BEAL CITY — McBain made the trip south to Beal City on Tuesday, May 13, to face the perennial Highland Conference baseball champion. The Ramblers were competitive in the first game but not the second, losing by scores of 7-3 and 15-0. Colton Haverkamp permitted six earned runs on four hits to the potent Aggies. Eli Peterson pounded a two-run single for McBain and Kasen Pollington also produced an RBI hit. Alan Thomas tagged a double and scored a run. Colton also cracked a single and scored a run.

    TAWAS – The Northern Michigan Christian girls of coach Jen VanNoord engaged in a lively, back-and-forth battle at the pitch of Tawas on Wednesday, May 14. The match two of the better teams in the Northern Michigan Soccer League ended up in a 1-1 deadlock. Forward Emalynn Winkle, who has made life on opposing goalkeepers difficult in recent weeks, put a wrinkle in the enemy net late in the first half to give the Comets a 1-0 lead but Tawas rallied to score its goal midway through the second half.

    FARWELL -- Lake City junior softball pitcher Olivia Gibel reached a notable career milestone on Saturday, May 10, surpassing 100 career strikeouts during the Farwell Invitational Tournament. Olivia is one of the few Lake City pitchers to reach triple digits in K's recorded and will likely add many more to her growing number before her career ends.     LAKE CITY – When Sadie Larson was a freshman for Lake City and joining the Lake City track team, Coach Nate Nederhood mentioned that the team needed hurdlers. Sadie literally and figuratively “jumped” at the chance and, in a sense, she’s been jumping the hurdles for the Trojans ever since. With no regrets.
