    LAKE CITY – The Lake City track boys and girls track teams outscored visiting Highland Conference foe Houghton Lake on Wednesday, April 23, in the league opener. Lake City earned a 108-46 decision in the boys’ meet and won by a 99-33 margin in the girls’ meet. The Trojan guys earned 13 first-place finishes and took second in the other four events. Sophomores Brayden Spears and Carter Root dominated the distance events along with freshman Misael Paez.

    McBAIN – McBain senior Bryce Akom was an impact player for four years as a varsity member of the successful Rambler football team, playing his part in helping the Ramblers qualify all four seasons for the playoffs. Four years as a team leader in rushing from the fullback slot and four years as a team leader in tackles from the linebacker position.

    McBAIN — The McBain softball team earned a pair of Highland Conference victories impressively on the home field Tuesday, April 22, sweeping Lake City by scores of 15-0 and 13-3. Katelyn DeZeeuw and Maddy Fancett shared the pitching duties for the Ramblers, each picking up a win. DeZeeuw started the opener and relieved in the nightcap and Fancett relieved in the opener and started game two. DeZeeuw and Fancett combined for a two-hitter in the opener with eight K’s between them.

    McBAIN — The McBain and Lake City baseball teams engaged in a pair of close, competitive games on Tuesday, April 22, in the Highland Conference opener for both sides. The host Ramblers won the two games, 3-2 and 8-6. Game one was a pitchers’ duel between McBain’s Colton Haverkamp and Cole McGiness for Lake City. Both pitched very well. Haverkamp notched 12 K’s while allowing two earned runs on six hits. Cole allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and five walks.

    EVART – It was another very good showing for the McBain boys and girls track teams. The Ramblers handily swept the Highland Conference double dual meet hosted by Evart on Tuesday, April 22. There were a number of notable performances in both meets. For the Rambler boys, senior Benny Rodenbaugh reached a personal record in the high jump (6-8) and very nearly set a school record, just barely missing at 6-9.
