Jacksonville Daily News
The Daily News is a newspaper that comes out every day in Jacksonville, North Carolina. It has been providing news to the residents of Jacksonville, Onslow County, and nearby regions since 1953. Originally owned by Freedom Communications, the paper changed hands in 2012 when Freedom sold its newspapers in Florida and North Carolina to Halifax Media Group. Then, in 2015, Halifax was bought by New Media Investment Group.

An eastern North Carolina author will be holding a book signing on Saturday at the Jacksonville Barnes and Noble for his newest title, "Tar Heel Bred: How Basketball Made A Man Out of Me."Scott Whisnant grew up in Jamestown, just outside of Greensboro, during the same time legendary coach Dean Smith began growing the basketball program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. So, it was easy to grow up a Tar Heel fan.

The N.C. Teaching Fellows Commission selected 530 teaching fellows, including nine from Onslow County, for the upcoming academic year. Five of the teaching fellows are from Jacksonville, two are from Swansboro, one from Sneads Ferry and one from Midway Park, according to the N.C. Teaching Fellows Commission.

SWANSBORO – Joshua Berry didn’t enjoy the many sports he played growing up. The Swansboro High School senior recalled participating in gymnastics, soccer, football and in martial arts, but never establishing a passion for any one of the athletic activities. Then towards the end of 2023, Berry was encouraged to play for an area club boys’ volleyball squad.
