A sea swimmer who died in a tragedy off the Kent coast has been named by his devastated family. The 20-year-old man’s disappearance at the Port of Dover sparked a huge search on May 3 – with the coastguard helicopter, police and lifeboats scrambled to the scene. But efforts to find him were unsuccessful across the bank holiday weekend and the rescue operation was stood down.

A gran is urging people to stop blocking footpaths with their bins after her mobility scooter tipped over into the road and she broke her leg. Denise Aaron remains in hospital more than a week after the accident near Faversham Recreation Ground, which left her needing surgery on her fractured femur. The fiercely independent 82-year-old had been trying to travel along the pavement in Orchard Place but her route was blocked by wheelie bins, forcing her to reverse.
