Jean-Bart, founder of the former Val’s Cheesecakes on Greenville Avenue, brings a deeply personal connection and decades of purpose-driven leadership to his new role, according to a press release. “Genesis was always close to my mom’s heart since she was a survivor of domestic abuse. Before she passed, we had a habit of visiting the Genesis Benefit Thrift Store to donate items every Saturday as a way to give back,” Jean-Bart said in a press release.

He spoke on topics as wide-ranging as how to fill Dallas’ desperate need for more officers, how to stem the tide of teen fentanyl overdose deaths and where to find a good po’ boy in his native New Orleans. Comeaux didn’t start out to become a law enforcement officer, much less a police chief.
Northeast Patrol Division officer arrested

On June 11, police say DPD Officer Jerrid Couch was arrested by the Dallas Police Department for public intoxication. DPD did not provide further details on the arrest.

Eleanor Boynton and Amber Gipson met in 2021 when their young daughters were classmates at LHUMC’s Christian Childhood Development Center. When Team USA heads to Brandenburg, Germany for the International Dragon Boat Federation world championships in July, Taffie Lynn Butters will be on the front lines. Butters and her teammates comprise the first breast cancer survivor team ever included in the event. Win or lose, they’ll be making history. Butters is relatively new to the sport. She jumped in following her cancer discovery in 2020. “After my diagnosis, everything changed for me,” she says.

It was a clear Monday afternoon — a break from the oftentimes gray and overcast weather Dallas sees in December — as Kelley Hurst drove home, headed northbound on Abrams Road nearing Forest Meadow Middle School. In the City of Dallas, council members may come to mind. But behind every council member are topical boards and commissions that advise the council. Volunteer-based positions are appointed by council members for their district, with exceptions for district-only boards. Often we see the same 10 people in our neighborhoods jumping up to volunteer and speak out for their community, but volunteers can only serve on two. So where are the people who represent you?
Where is Dallas' Midtown? We're not exactly sure.

Dallas has a Downtown and, since the late ’90s, an Uptown. So where is Midtown? Depending on who you ask, it’s either four miles northeast of Uptown in an area traditionally known as Vickery Meadows, five miles northeast on Royal Lane or eight miles north at the former Valley View Mall site. How does that work? We’re not exactly sure. Logically, one would figure Midtown to be located somewhere in the Harwood District and Victory Park, both sandwiched between Uptown and Downtown.
