    CHARLESTON — A man who told police he fatally shot someone during an argument after he thought the victim was reaching for a gun has pleaded guilty. Derek Rashon Johnson, 33, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter in the January 2024 fatal shooting of Michael Simmons, 42. Ninth Circuit Judge Deadra Jefferson sentenced Johnson to 10 years in prison. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office initially arrested and charged Johnson with murder.
