After the Juan Soto storyline, the biggest for the New York Mets this offseason was whether Pete Alonso would return or not. A flood of Mets rumors about their standoff with each other highlighted the bulk of the wintry days in Flushing. The two sides eventually came to an agreement on what was a fair deal. Alonso got his money now and an opportunity to prove he deserves much more.

    Another disappointing rehab start has Frankie Montas looking nowhere near ready to join the Mets. Frankie Montas took the hill for his third rehab start on Tuesday. This time he’d get to face Triple-A betters. A questionable free agent signing in the offseason for the New York Mets, Montas was a David Stearns project much like some of the others we’ve seen brought to town. Recently injured or seemingly on the decline pitchers have made some massive progress while being members of the Mets.

    Thank goodness the New York Mets had the first overall pick in the 1980 MLB Draft. Losing has its consequences. In some instances, there’s a benefit. On June 3, 1980, because of all of the losing they did the year prior, the Mets were awarded with the first overall pick in the MLB Draft. A high schooler out of Los Angeles, Darryl Strawberry, was the choice and they couldn’t have nailed this one better. Sometimes there is a bit of debate about who to take in a draft.

A look at the late/close stats this season in Major League Baseball shows us a much different picture of what Francisco Lindor is accomplishing out of the leadoff spot. The first to bat for the New York Mets each and every time, he’s the table setting star whose ability to put the team ahead 1-0 early is a weapon not every ball club has.
