HMRC is sending out letters to parents. The government revenue body has issued a warning to parents claiming Child Benefit for teenagers, stating that they need to take prompt action or payments might stop. Those with 16 year old children who are continuing in education or embarking on approved training must update their details by August 31 to secure their benefit claims. Currently, Child Benefit is received by 7.62 million UK households.

A former Humberside Police inspector is due to appear in court charged with causing the sexual exploitation of a child under 13. He has also been accused of three counts of making indecent photographs of children. Ian Walpole was charged today (Friday, May 16) and has been bailed to appear at Lincoln Magistrates' Court on Thursday, May 22. Humberside Police say an investigation was launched in July last year when information was received of suspected offending.
