Quincy golfer Braylon Estlow ran away with the first The Daily Reporter Athlete of the Week award for the 2025 spring sports season, winning with over 80% of the vote. So, who will win week two?

BRANCH COUNTY – Already a month into the spring sports season and some track teams in Branch County have only run in two meets, meaning we still do not know what each team has in terms of talent. While we do not know what the future holds, we do know what has happened on the track already and a pair of teams put their talent up against the opposition this weekend in invitational action, giving fans and foes alike a little taste of what is to come in 2025.

QUINCY – Mother Nature continues to fight it but ever so slowly spring is being allowed to take over, meaning athletes from across the county are finally plying their trade on the diamonds, courts, tracks, courses and pitches across Branch County. A U.S. citizen was shot and killed Thursday after hijacking a small airplane in Belize at knifepoint and stabbing three people on board, officials in Belize and the U.S. confirmed. The man brandished a knife while the Tropic Air plane was airborne while demanding that the pilots take him out of the country, Police Commissioner Chester Williams told journalists, according to Reuters. The man was identified Thursday as Akinyela Sawa Taylor, a U.S. citizen and military veteran, Williams added.

CONCORD – The Union City Charger track team looked to kick off the defense of their Big 8 Conference championship with a bang Wednesday night, taking the long trip to the Chuck King Track Complex in Concord to open their Big 8 schedule versus Concord and Maple Valley. The Union City boys split on the night, beating Maple Valley while falling to Concord, while the girls took a huge sweep, including a come from behind win over Concord in a meet that came down to the very end.
