WPHL-TV, which is now called PHL17, first went on the air on September 17, 1965. Over the years, PHL17 has created and broadcast many beloved local shows, including the popular children's program Wee Willie Webber’s Colorful Cartoon Club, Dr. Shock’s Horror Theater, and the iconic 1980s teen dance show Dancin’ on Air, which featured Madonna's first TV appearance. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the station earned the nickname “The Great Entertainer.” PHL17 has a rich history of showcasing both college and professional sports, including teams like the Phillies, Sixers, Flyers, Eagles, Big 5, and currently the MLS Union and NLL Wings. The station has also been the home of the Mummers Parade, a cherished New Year’s Day event, for more than 25 years. On September 5, 2006, PHL17 became an affiliate of MyNetworkTV. In addition to its well-loved programs, the station features popular sitcoms such as The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, The Goldbergs, and Mom, along with other local favorites like Two and a Half Men, Friends, and Seinfeld.
