MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Deportation flights out of the Mesa Gateway Airport started this week, and protesters on Monday say the flights are violations of human rights. Dozens of people gathered in front of the East Valley airport with picket signs and flags, and they said these flights don’t represent their community or their country. “We’re just trying to walk the walk,” said Becky Wyatt, an organizer of the protest.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — On Sunday, May 4, members of the San Carlos Apache Tribe started their 80-mile sacred run to protest a mining operation from being built on sacred grounds. The sacred run started in Oak Flat, and members will end in downtown Phoenix ahead of a federal court hearing that could help save their holy grounds. Member Naelyn Pike said her tribe is fighting not only for the environment around them but also for their religious freedoms.
