Some areas around Chicagoland may see isolated showers or stronger cells with hail in the late night and overnight hours, but the greater threat of severe weather and the potential for tornado development has diminished. Expect temperatures to tumble overnight, bottoming out in the upper 40s around sunrise Saturday. While Friday was unseasonably warm, the day’s cloud cover appears to have increased stability in the atmosphere, reducing the threat of severe weather.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy periods, windy and significantly milder. A shower or thunderstorm possible toward daybreak. Southerly winds 15-30 mph and gusty. Low: 55. The Chicago area is in a level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk for potentially strong or severe thunderstorms. The main threats are damaging winds, and large hail but an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Locally heavy downpours will be possible in the heavier storms.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Becoming partly cloudy late. Not quite as cold. Lows range from the middle 30s coolest inland to the lower 40s near Lake Michigan. Low: 40. An unsettled weather pattern ahead with the potential for severe thunderstorms along the warm front in areas south and west of Chicago. Some of these storms could arrive into parts of the Chicago area toward Thursday evening, and continue in scattered fashion as we move into Friday.

The sun is shining Wednesday morning in Chicagoland, and how warm it’ll get later depends on where you are. If you’re close to Lake Michigan, an easterly breeze off the lake will keep high temperatures in the upper 40s. If you’re in the southwest suburbs, on the other hand, you may seen highs in the lower 60s. Wednesday has started chilly, with a center of high pressure sitting just north of Chicago, in Wisconsin.

When you walk outside Tuesday morning, you’ll notice right away it’s a little different than it was 24 hours ago. Temperatures dropped significantly overnight around Chicagoland, with clouds and light scattered rain showers marking the Tuesday morning commute. It’s also blustery, with northwest winds sustained at 25 miles per hour and gusting up to 35 or even 40 during the day Tuesday. Morning rain will clear out, but it’ll remain mostly cloudy, with high temps only reaching the low 50s.
