A watch indicates that conditions are favorable for severe weather, while a warning means that severe weather is imminent or occurring and immediate action is required. The greatest risk for any severe thunderstorms are damaging straight-line winds and large hail in excess of 1 inch in diameter. A slight risk for isolated tornadoes is also possible in any severe thunderstorm, especially for Northwest Indiana.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, warm and humid with clusters of showers and thunderstorms. Low: 68. A noticeably cloudier, more active weather day is on tap Wednesday along with cooler, but continued humid conditions. Much of the Chicagoland area is in a level 2 of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms, with portions of northwest Indiana in a heighted level 3 of 5 risk.

FRIDAY NIGHT: A good deal of cloudiness, warm. Slight chance of a shower early in the evening. Low: 61. The Father’s Day weekend begins with a fair amount of cloudiness, but a drier northeast wind flow off the lake from a high pressure to the north will scour out the clouds rather expeditiously and result in a fairly pleasant afternoon.  High temperatures will warm into the low 80s well inland, but near the lake it will only be in the middle 60s to near 70 degrees.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy periods, seasonably mild. Light northeast to east winds.  Low: 61. Friday won’t be totally free of sunshine, but it will feature far more cloud cover than recent days. An area of low pressure well south of Chicago will move slowly northward into southern Illinois by late Friday evening. This will result in some mainly light showers or even some spotty sprinkles.

Air Quality across the Chicago area is really bad right now. Of all major cities in the world, Chicago is 2nd worst! For those with heart/respiratory issues, limit prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion. #haze #smoke #AirQuality https://t.co/aAeWQJ1TlZ
