Highs were noticeably cooler Monday in the wake of the low 80s on Sunday afternoon prior to the arrival of mid-afternoon thunderstorms. Peak readings were in the low 70s, a level nearly 10 degrees below normal. The cooler temperatures were accompanied by a gusty westerly wind that passed 30 mph at times while we enjoyed nearly 70% of the day’s potential sunshine. Snapshot of mid to late afternoon temperatures and how much different they were than the same time on Sunday.

Finally, the unseasonably cool air that’s kept Chicagoland in a springtime chill lately is loosening its grip. It may not quite warm to seasonal levels on Thursday, but it’ll at least be close, with high temperatures creeping into the lower 70s for the first time in nearly two weeks. It’ll still remain cooler along the lake, however, with high temps there closer to the mid-60s.

A bit of a range with our temperatures today, Highs in the mid 80s south and upper 70s north. Partly cloudy with continued haziness due to wildfire smoke drifting in. Be aware, our air quality has been hovering in the 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' range. @WGNNews https://t.co/ZveXRhLTZk

Temps closer to normal today and into the weekend. Friday evening we have the potential of a few isolated thunderstorms. Besides that, calmer conditions with more sunshine coming our way this weekend. It will also be hazy as wildfire smoke drifts in from Canada. @WGNNews https://t.co/6KTrCt8DzK
