CHICAGO (WGN) — Humans share much more with dogs than just our homes. The National Institutes of Health says there are six types of cancers in dogs that are similar to those in people. Researchers say some treatments developmed for days may also work for humans. Dr. Timothy Fan, professor of veterinary clinical medicine at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is working to develop those new treatments. He joined the WGN Evening News on Friday to discuss his research.

CHICAGO (WGN) — Weiss Memorial Hospital, in the city’s Uptown neighborhood, expects to be without air conditioning for “several days” after the system experienced a “catastrophic” failure, hospital officials said in a Tuesday statement. Resilience Healthcare blamed the failure on aging infrastructure. The company said the hospital’s previous owners failed to properly maintain the system. Resilience acquired the facility from Pipeline Health in 2022.
