Jacob Wasielewski was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing from a very young age. The 18-year-old's father, Joe Wasielewski, said he first took his son to the lake as a baby. ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Over 35 confirmed wildfires are burning across Alaska this week, with more than 320 wildland fires sparking across the state year to date. As of Thursday, over half a million acres have burned in total in 2024, according to the Alaska Wildland Fire Dashboard. The Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service and Division of Forestry continue to monitor the progression of the fires, four of which have caused significant concern.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A wildfire that quickly grew into a 350-acre blaze Sunday afternoon near the Denali National Park entrance is being suppressed by firefighting crews Monday, despite some services shutting down and a loss of power in the immediate area. In an update, a Denali National Park and Preserve spokesperson said crews made “good progress” overnight, with the line holding on the fire’s southern edge, which is nearest to people and structures.
