ROCHESTER — The value of new construction continues to increase throughout Olmsted County. “In the last 10 years, market values have essentially doubled,” Olmsted County Assessor Julie Hackman said, pointing to new construction assessments that went from $206 million in 2014 to $479 million 2024. With $479. 2 million in new construction documented in 2024, more than two-thirds of the investment – $333.1 million – occurred within Rochester.

ROCHESTER — Rochester’s new fire chief wants to tweak the department’s 2024-2030 Strategic Operating Plan . He’s asking to nix plans to hire 11 emergency medical technicians in order to add eight full-time firefighters. “I’m an EMT; I’m a paramedic. I have nothing against EMTs and paramedics, but when you are trying to run a fire department, they can only fill one role,” Fire Chief Mason Pooler told the Rochester City Council on Monday.

Jun. 16—ROCHESTER — The Rochester City Council agreed to pay nearly $676,000 in settlements Monday to address claims tied to collected development fees. No court claims were filed on the new settlements. However, Rochester City Attorney Michael Spindler-Krage said litigation threats were made following a 2022 lawsuit filed by Tap House Real Estate LLC, which ended with a $245,000 settlement earlier this year.

Jun. 15—ROCHESTER — A pair of public hearings Monday will make way for potential financing of two planned affordable housing projects in Rochester. The Rochester City Council will accept input on requests to issue tax-exempt Housing Revenue Bonds for a 76-unit complex planned at the southwest corner of the existing Civic Center North Parking Lot, 217 E. Center St., and the first phase of a 141-unit complex south of Civic Center Drive near Fifth Avenue Northwest.
