    CHICAGO (WGN) — Chicago street festivals are facing rising costs and declining donations, prompting the formation of a coalition to try to save the events. Launched on April 18, the Save Our Street Festival Coalition brings together nearly two dozen organizers. As a result of financial strain, Pamela Maass, executive director with the Wicker Park-Bucktown Chamber of Commerce, warns that many festivals may not be able to continue.

    NEW YORK (WGN) — A nonprofit headquartered on the South Side rang the New York Stock Exchange opening bell Friday morning.  Project HOOD and its founder, Pastor Corey Brooks, were honored for their efforts to reduce violence, eliminate poverty, and build economic opportunity.  The organization is building a $45 million leadership and economic opportunity center at 66th and King Drive. Established in 2012, Project HOOD stands for helping others obtain destiny.

    CICERO, Ill. — Officials in the Town of Cicero have announced an arrest in connection with the murder of two military veterans, 30 years after their deaths. Cicero police say they have arrested 49-year-old Daniel Flores, a current resident of Guanajuato, Mexico, who formerly lived in Cicero, in connection with the 1995 murders of 22-year-old John Fields and his 19-year-old brother Michael Fields. According to police, the shooting unfolded in the 2900 block of 50th Court on April 12, 1995.

    Utah will become the first state to ban fluoride from public drinking water, with a similar ban already in the works in Florida. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has publicly pushed for a national ban on fluoride. But dentists and other health experts are pushing back against the idea, saying it’s safe and effective in preventing cavities.  Dr. Mira Albert is a pediatric dentist in Hinsdale and a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
