A Southwest Airlines jet nearly crashed with a business jet that was not authorized to be on the runway Tuesday morning at Midway Airport, according to the FAA. At 8:50 a.m. the crew of Southwest Airlines Flight 2504 initiated a “go-around” when a business jet entered the runway without authorization at Chicago Midway Airport, according to Steve Kulm, of the FAA.

Two undocumented migrants — one wearing a GPS monitoring device — killed a 63-year-old Northwest Side man during a robbery after he met them on a dating app, police sources said Friday. One of the suspects was wearing an Immigration and Customs Enforcement monitor during the killing, the sources said. The GPS device allowed police to place the man at the scene of the killing Sunday in the 7600 block of West Talcott Avenue in Norwood Park, the sources said.

An off-duty Chicago police officer quickly responded to a shooting earlier this week in North Center and likely saved the life of a retired police sergeant who was left critically wounded, the local alderperson told the Sun-Times. Ald. Matt Martin (47th) said the former sergeant’s condition is “improving,” though he’s still being treated in the intensive care unit at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Martin said he now wants to honor the off-duty cop who came to the ex-sergeant’s aid.

A man has been charged in the fatal shooting of two men at Navy Pier Tuesday, according to Chicago police. Raylon East, a 36-year-old South Shore resident, faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony unlawful use of a weapon, police said. East’s arrest was announced Thursday. East, described by police as a “disgruntled” ex-employee of a subcontractor at the pier who was fired Oct. 14, is alleged to have shot and killed two victims in a targeted attack Tuesday, police said.
