Gunshots rang out just after 8 p.m. near 54th Street and Damen Avenue as two victims were leaving a business, according to Chicago police. Authorities said three suspects got out of a dark-colored sedan, displayed firearms, and began firing. The 69-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and back and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, the single-engine 1946 Aeronca 7AC aircraft went down just west of the airport around midday. Both occupants were from Maple Park, Illinois. The pilot, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
