It is operated by Entercom Communications, which acquired the station from Sinclair Broadcasting in 1999. Prior to adopting its current format, the station was known as WBBF and featured oldies music, and it was previously called WKLX before transitioning to a lower-powered frequency at 93.3 FM. The studios of WBZA are situated at High Falls Studios in the downtown area, while its transmitter tower is located on the west side of Rochester.
