Waiting for it to warm up around Chicagoland this spring? Wait no longer, because warm air is here. Monday kicks off a very warm May week around the area, with highs ranging from the mid- to upper 60s lakeside — cooler temperatures at the lake will be a theme for now — to the lower 80s at some inland locations. Monday will get off to a clear and sunny start, but clouds will increase later before the chance for scattered showers and storms arrives Monday night into Tuesday.

The recent pattern of dreary spring weather will hang on through most of Monday for Cinco de Mayo around Chicagoland. But things will turn for the better this week. Light rain and drizzle continues early Monday around the area, with overcast skies. The clouds may break up a little by the late-day hours, with high temperatures around 60 inland. Northeast winds off Lake Michigan, however, will keep it cooler at the lakefront.

Friday dawns with a continuation of extensive cloudiness and more chances for scattered showers as we move into the weekend. Rains will not be continuous, but a “cut off” low pressure system will park itself south and east of the Chicago area over the Ohio Valley and bring widespread cloudiness and a cool “ENE” flow off Lake Michigan which will result in below normal temperatures continuing into early next week.

Father’s Day is coming up. Give dad the gift that keeps on giving… literally. Like these gold cufflinks that contain two different strains of plague-causing bacteria. They’re actually the strains thought to have caused the bubonic plague. They’re actually not for sale, which is probably a good thing. They’re actually housed in the Science Museum in London. But according to Atlas Obscura, no one know who made them, or why.
