CHICAGO (WGN) – A young male swimmer drowned in Lake Michigan Monday afternoon on the city’s South Side. (Photo: SkyCam 9)The Chicago Fire Department said crews were in the water near the boat dock at 31st Street Beach searching for a swimmer who had been reported missing at around 2 p.m. The unresponsive male swimmer was pulled from the water at around 3:15 p.m. and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center.

CHICAGO – While mourners in Vatican City and across the globe celebrate the life of Pope Francis who was laid to rest Saturday, Chicagoans also came together for a special Mass at Holy Name Cathedral commemorating the pope’s life. A solemn liturgy gave both Catholics and non-Catholics alike the chance to pray for Pope Francis while reflecting on his life. The Mass was held just hours after the pope’s funeral was held at St. Peter’s Square in Rome, and nearly 800 people were in attendance.

CHICAGO (WGN) — Two men are dead and another is in the hospital after a shooting in the City’s South Shore neighborhood early Sunday morning. According to the Chicago Police Department, officers were on patrol in the South Shore neighborhood around 2:45 a.m. when they heard gunfire nearby. Police said they tracked the gunfire to a residence in the 7200 block of South Paxton Avenue, where they found three men were shot.

CREST HILL, Ill. (WGN) – Community members, friends, and strangers lined the streets Friday to salute a fallen hero as a procession made its way to the Word of Life Church in Crest Hill. Four service members were killed during a training exercise in Lithuania, including Army Staff Sergeant (SSG) Jose Dueñez Jr., 25, of Joliet, in late March. NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WGN) — A landscaper is being hailed a hero after he helped save the life of a driver whose vehicle veered off the road and into a pond in Naperville. Just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Plainfield Fire Protection District (PFPD), along with the Naperville Fire Department (NFD), responded to a report of a vehicle submerged in a pond near the intersection of Royal Worlington Drive and Route 59 in unincorporated Naperville.
