FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Memorial Day Weekend is often considered unofficially the start to summer in our area. FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A rare sight occurred Friday evening across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. Gusty winds connected with a complex of thunderstorms swept up dust and dirt from farm fields in parts of Illinois and western Indiana. Dust particles blew around in the very strong winds along the leading edge of the storms. For the first time ever, the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office issued a Blowing Dust Advisory.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – You saw the forecasts for Thursday night’s severe weather potential in our area and likely were concerned about powerful storms impacting northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. We had a warm front nearby, yet as you can see below, thunderstorms fizzled into Indiana while they kept going strong in Michigan.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Thursday was the first day in 2025 where the humidity climbed up to uncomfortable levels across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. Our WANE 15 Muggy Meter made its first appearance of the year and we climbed as high as the Tropical category on Thursday. We were as high as the tropical humidity level on Thursday. When the humidity feels uncomfortable, it means the dew point temperature is elevated.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A little bit of patchy frost out there Friday morning will not hinder your spring planting this weekend!Mother’s Day is traditionally the date you can begin planting for the season and all signs point toward us being free of any concerns in the freeze department for the foreseeable future. We have also passed our average last frost date, which is May 6th in Fort Wayne.
