Penelope Ralles, 76, died in a fire at her home in Plain Township on Sunday morning. The fire at 2511 58th St. NE started around 6 a.m. and was under control by 6:40 a.m.The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the fire is not considered suspicious. Damage is estimated at $350,000. PLAIN TWP. ‒ The owner of a home at 2511 58th St. NE has been identified as the person killed in a Sunday morning fire. The Stark County Coroner's Office named the fire victim Monday as Penelope Ralles.

Joanna Escobar was in and out of the hospital between 2022 and 2023 because of Crohn's disease. That made it difficult for the 29-year-old Canton resident to keep a job. A hospital caseworker helped her apply for Medicaid, but Escobar said the government insurance wouldn't cover brand-name, biologic drugs that cost $11,000 to $13,000 out of pocket. “I had to settle for other drugs that weren't as effective, and then I ended up failing those drugs," she said.
