Fermanagh Herald
The Fermanagh Herald is a weekly newspaper primarily distributed in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It was founded in 1902 by the North West of Ireland Printing and Publishing Company, which was created the previous year by the Lynch family. The newspaper is released every Wednesday and boasts the highest circulation among the publications of the North West of Ireland Printing and Publishing Company, averaging 13,169 copies in the first half of 2010. Its sister publications include the Ulster Herald, Tyrone Herald, Donegal News (available on Mondays and Fridays), Strabane Chronicle, and Gaelic Life.

LOCAL firefighters have been praised for their efforts in tackling a huge gorse fire that raged from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday just outside Clogher, a blaze which damaged around a third of the popular beauty spot Slieve Beagh. The fire was first reported shortly before 1pm on Wednesday along Ballagh Road in Clogher. It quickly spread, prompting a large-scale response involving 15 front-line appliances, over 100 personnel, and several specialist vehicles.

By Jonathan HoganEnniskillen Rangers have appointed Darren Higginbotham as their new first team manager, following Michael Kerr’s departure after last week’s season closer against Killen. Higginbotham, who enjoyed a successful spell with Irvinestown Wanderers — guiding them back to Division One — finished the season alongside Ryan Campbell at Kesh, helping steer the club to the Mulhern Cup final. He now returns to Rangers, where he previously played and coached, this time in charge.

FORMER students of an Enniskillen school which is set to cease as part of a ‘closure and expansion’ programme have recalled many “special memories” of their early education. After much speculation, it was confirmed that St Joseph’s College and St Fanchea’s College, which were both opened in 1960, would wind up in early 2027, in a major local shake-up. The pupils at both schools will be absorbed by St Michael’s College and Mount Lourdes.

THE Fermanagh community has been praised for its generosity after over £40,000 has been raised to support a two-year-old girl who is living with an extremely rare genetic health condition. Catherine Cox, born in September 2022, lives with CDKL5 deficieny disorder. The condition causes a range of neurodevelopmental challenges, with research ongoing into future treatments.
