On Wednesday, the city of Ruidoso held a press conference to announce that it will be hosting the Ironman in July 2026. The Ironman 70.3 is one of a series of triathlons organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), culminating in the World Championship race. As with other triathlons, there is a swimming, biking and running portion of the race. The 70.3 in the name refers to the total distance an athlete will travel in the race: 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run.

On Thursday, the Roswell Lady Coyotes softball team hosted the Carlsbad Cavegirls for a doubleheader. The Lady Coyotes entered this matchup with a 5-11 record and are 1-1 in district play. Their last matchup was a doubleheader against Hobbs at home on Tuesday, where they lost the first game 15-8 and won the second game 9-3.

CARLSBAD — At least 17 bat species call Carlsbad Caverns home, along with 55 different kinds of reptiles and 600 insects. The massive diversity of fauna at the park about 30 miles southwest of the city of Carlsbad, an iconic tourist draw for the local community and region, caused the park to be ranked fourth-best in the U.S for wildlife spotting.

For the last couple of months, the Southern New Mexico All-Star Showcase Little League football group has been helping youth learn tackle football. Headed by Josue Macias, the league aims to help the youth develop their abilities and skills in tackle football and give them better opportunities to get into better programs. The program hosts children aged 4-13 and has five teams: 5U, 6U, 8U, 10U and 12U teams. They hope to add a 9U, 11U and 13U team in the future.

On Tuesday, the Goddard Lady Rockets softball team hosted the Artesia Lady Bulldogs for a matchup. The Lady Rockets came into the game with an 11-6 record. Their last matchup was a doubleheader against Clovis, in which the Rockets won both games with scores of 17-6 and 16-1. The Lady Bulldogs also came in with an 11-6 record. Their last matchup was a doubleheader against Roswell High, in which the Lady Bulldogs won both matches with scores of 14-1 and 3-0.
