Bold plans to create a community sports hub have been attracting enthusiastic support. Welfare League side Buckie Rovers and Buckie Thistle Football Development (BTFD) have joined forces to create a community sports hub with the aim of improving and expanding the range of facilities in the area. The main focus of the project is Rovers’ home at Merson Park and the pavilion there.

People interested in attending a public meeting on the future of a crumbling secondary school are being asked to register in advance. There was disappointment in store last month for Buckie Community High School (BCHS) students, parents and staff when plans to rebuild or refurbish the buildings dealt yet another blow.

An emergency full council meeting has been called to discuss halting plans to close Glass and three other nursery schools in rural Aberdeenshire. Glass, which is allied to the village’s primary school, faces being ‘mothballed’ for at least two years come the end of this summer term. However a special meeting of all councillors will now take place on Monday, June 9, to revisit its future along with those of the nurseries at Crossroads, Ballogie and Sandhaven.

Nearly a hundred people came along at the weekend to discuss the future of an empty village church. The doors of the old Rhynie Congregational Church were thrown open last Saturday to explore how the building could become a space for the local community. The event was hosted by Rhynie Charitable Trust which secured the ownership of the building in March. Colin Mumford, the trust’s chairman, said: “We were delighted with the turnout over the course of the day.
