More than 6,000 doorbell and CCTV cameras registered to Essex Police scheme

In March, Essex and Kent Police launched a new initiative involving CCTV and doorbell cameras which could help support investigations. Residents can sign up to the force’s public CCTV Register to help create a comprehensive map of CCTV locations across the county. Registering cameras does not allow Essex Police or Kent Police to access the camera’s live video stream.

Essex Police were called to reports of a single vehicle collision in Strethall Road in Littlebury in Saffron Walden at about 8.10am on June 12. Officers found a car with a single occupant, a 23-year-old man, who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The man's family have been informed. A man was identified and arrested at the scene. Officers also recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the incident. Further investigation revealed that the arrested male was also involved in a separate case of blackmail, targeting a vulnerable member of our community who was being financially exploited.

A12 speeding offenders who hit 140mph will be punished, police say

Speed checks conducted on the A12 between Chelmsford and Witham on Friday resulted in officers detecting 180 offences in just one hour – and police say offenders are going to pay the price. Three of the worst offenders involved drivers hitting speeds of 140mph, 121mph, and 110mph. Essex Police’s head of roads policing, Adam Pipe, said the number of serious collisions across the county this year should be a warning to those who offend when they get behind the wheel of a car.
