The origins of the Reuben sandwich are a mystery. Some say that he started his life in Omaha, Nebraska, for example, when a grocer called Reuben Kulakofsky whispered him for some local poker players during a late evening match at the Blackstone Hotel in the 1920s. The sandwich was a success and, therefore, he reached the hotel’s permanent menu. Others say that this sandwich was not invented in Omaha, but in New York, by the rich restaurateur Arnold Reuben and his family.
