Newbury has marked the 81st anniversary of the D-Day Landings, the largest amphibious invasion in history. A service, led by Fr Michael Fava, took place at Greenham Common Control Tower this morning (Friday) to remember more than 150,000 Allied troops who stormed the beaches of Normandy in 1944 to liberate Western Europe from the Nazis. Observers joined in prayer and recited the Exhortation. The Last Post sounded and a two-minute silence was observed.

Kennet Crayfish Gin has achieved its second international honour since launching in January. The Kennet Crayfish Company – which has its offices in Lower Way in Thatcham – has been awarded a bronze medal in the International Wine & Spirit Competition, one of the world’s oldest and largest spirits awards. This marks the second win for the craft gin, which already won a silver medal The World Gin Awards.

Yashwa Romeo has left his role as manager of Thatcham Town Football Club. A new café is coming soon to Newbury town centre – but with a twist. The owners of Mio Fiore have taken over The Flower Pot Café, which closed its doors in March.
