C and J Clarks International Ltd has applied to install illuminated signage at its new branch opening in 50 Parkway Shopping Centre, previously Joules clothing company. West Berkshire Council is expected to decide on the application by Friday, June 27. The company, founded in 1825 and known for its range of fashionable footwear, left 2-3 Northbrook Street last year.

    A Newbury woman has been awarded for donating more than 100 pints of blood. Sybil Marsh was presented a certificate for reaching her 100th donation milestone during the pandemic at a ceremony in Marlow on April 30. She continues to donate blood, and encourages others to do the same. Last year, NHS Blood and Transplant announced a nationwide push for more donors over 45 to give blood.

    A woman has travelled to France for the official opening of a memorial featuring her grandfather’s name, a pilot killed in the Second World War. The memorial, dedicated to Allied airmen who crashed in Northern France, lists the names of 71 British airmen – including one pilot from Bradfield. Flight lieutenant Mark Medley Carter was shot down over France while serving in the RAF on May 15, 1940, aged 27.

Councillor Petra Pemberton (Lib Dem, Thatcham Central) has been elected as the new Mayor of Thatcham for 2025/26, with councillor Justin Pemberton (Lib Dem, Thatcham West) as her consort.
