NEAR MT. STERLING, Ill. — Illinois State Police (ISP) troopers are investigating a two-vehicle head-on fatal crash. It happened just after 2 p.m. on US Route 24 at Timewell Road, about five miles west of Mt. Sterling. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries. The crash investigation is active. ISP could not provide any further information at this time. KHQA will have updates as they are made available.

QUINCY, Ill. — UPDATE: A homeless man, a candle, an intrusive raccoon and a burning mop are all blamed for an overnight fire at a vacant house in Quincy. The unusual chain of events happened shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday at 828 North Sixth Street. Quincy police say a homeless 47-year-old unnamed man from Quincy had a candle burning for heat on an enclosed back porch of the house when a raccoon entered the porch.
